Terroir Wines Melody Chardonnay 2010

Made with a view to expressing aromatic complexity and the broad palate qualities chardonnay can offer. There is a definite sense of "minerality" expressive of the vineyard site, restrained fruit and moderate influence of oak.

Melody drinks well from the first glass poured and is enjoyable as a wine on its own but shows particularly well with food. We can see great versatility with Melody and food be it with Caesar salad, pasta, risotto, chicken dishes or pan fried fish fillets. The wines mineral core works particularly well to accentuate the underlying flavours in food with the moderate acidity creating a broad textural feel to the palate. We estimate very good drinking through to 2015.

Melody was harvested from the St Martin Vineyard on the Martinborough Terrace. A mix of B95 and Rua clones of chardonnay from old vines trained to 2 cane vertical shoot positioned trellising.

Harvested 11th April 2010, the grapes for Melody were destemmed and very gently pressed. Approximately 30% of the wine underwent spontaneous (wild) fermentation in older oak with the balance inoculated and fermented in a mix of new (Demptos cooperage American) and old French oak barrels. The wine was matured sur- lie for 12 months (no battonage) with 100% malolactic fermentation taking place over this period. A light fining (casein) was undertaken prior to filtration and bottling. Sealed under Diam cork. Bottle matured 12 months pre-release.
