Terroir Wines Stampede 2011

The 2011 vintage was great for this vineyard with the grapes being harvested for Stampede in the second week of May. The ideal combination of moderate brix (22.5 average) and long maturation on the vine has allowed us to present a full and powerful wine with high volumes of ripe tannin and restrained alcohol.

Broadly described the winemaking followed a minimal intervention approach to permit the grapes from this outstanding vintage to express their own potential. We practiced an absolute minimum level pumping over during ferment and post ferment maceration periods. A long skin contact of 6 weeks was undertaken to encourage not only extraction but softening of tannins on skins. Stampede was then basket pressed with only free run and lighter pressed wine fractions forming the blend. Following this approximately nine months tank maturation with several aerative rackings were completed pre bottling.

Cellaring & Drinking

This wine will drink well over the next 5 years at least with significant likelihood of increased complexity over a greater period.

We recommended Stampede for those that love their full bodied reds and unique wines of interest. With food Stampede is an especially suitable accompaniment to any prime steak cuts, stews, osso bucco and ragu or simply a plate of black olives.
